Mountain Hideaway
Valbruna, Italy
On nature’s doorstep, this mountain retreat designed by R&P, blends the natural setting into the interior spaces. The design concept was deliberately contemporary, with subtle references to traditional design motifs and materials. The armonious design is richly detailed and quietly luxurious with style that surpasses trends.
The villa, gracefully nestled on a gentle slope overlooking the Nabois and the Jof Fuart, spans three levels. The ground floor houses the spa area, featuring an indoor pool with a large glass window opening onto the garden, a sauna, an emotional shower and a gym. A central wooden staircase leads to the first floor, where the living area unfolds. The heart of this space is the grand fireplace, around which are arranged the dining room, the wine tasting bar, the sitting room and a reading corner.
On the opposite side lies the expansive kitchen, entirely clad in larch wood, complete with a table and bench.
The second floor accommodates the bedrooms, including the master suite, whose headboard echoes the silhouette of the mountain profiles it gazes upon, along with two bathrooms.
Great care has been devoted to the selection of materials, with a preference for those that are natural and characteristic of the local region and its mountainous context. Wood species such as larch, pine, and cedar have been extensively employed in the creation of bespoke furniture and paneling that extends across all walls, seamlessly integrating with wardrobes, doors, and bookshelves.
The myriad shades of gray are reflected in the ceramic cladding, which features a textured surface and irregular edges, as well as in the fabrics, which exhibit a coarse and uneven weave. Each room in the house emerges as a cocoon-like sanctuary, open to the lush greenery of the surrounding forests.
